Authentic Mexican Street Food Comes to Closter

¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo! Today is the perfect day to check truly authentic Mexican street fare at the new taqueria El Taco Bar in Closter. With hand-made tortillas, colorful fresh salsas, tasty tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and delights you can find in Mexican outdoor markets such as grilled Mexican street corn, you won’t be disappointed. Join the party tonight as El Taco Bar will be staying open until 9 pm and offering Cinco de Mayo specials. Catering is available if you want to celebrate at home tonight or have future catering needs.

Greg “Goyo” Michelson grew up in San Diego as a first-generation Mexican American. Living close to the border, Michelson grew up visiting Tijuana and enjoying all the tastes of Mexico, especially culinary treats from outdoor food stands and open-air markets. “I wanted to bring those flavors to New Jersey. We pride ourselves in using only the freshest ingredients, making everything by hand, and bringing in the authenticity you don’t always find in Mexican restaurants in the United States.”

He found the perfect partner in Chef Aura Montoya. Born in Columbia and trained by a Mexican chef in Culinary School in Argentina, Montoya is an expert in Latin flavors. She traveled with Michelson to Mexico and San Diego to taste all the foods that Michelson grew up with, and hone in on developing a Mexican menu for their upcoming venture.

“We developed the concert together,” Michelson says. “We tasted everything and took note of the colors and feel of Mexican taquerias. We want people to have a full experience at El Taco Bar. You eat with your eyes so thought went in to not only the look of the food, but the look of the restaurant as well. Diners eat at tables with colorful Mexican talavera tiles.

Montoya and Michelson brought in a third partner—Jamie, Montoya’s husband. “He is the financial guru of the business.” she says. “The three of us make a good team.” See Chef Montoya welcome you into the restaurant in the video below.
